Tented Eco Camp | Gondwana

Your base during the program will be in our eco-friendly tented camp set in a protected valley blanketed in Fynbos in the heart of the game reserve. The camp facilities include 5 large, comfortable twin or double share tents set on raised decks each with an ensuite bathroom and covered deck area (2 additional tents are for staff). All meals are provided in the recreational communal tent area which includes kitchen, lounge, dining, and covered deck areas, as well as an outdoor dining boma. Relaxation area with hammocks and pool is also available.

Game Drives
• Each drive includes beverage and snack on drive and Afternoon Tea prior to evening Game drive.
• Minimum of 2 persons per Game Drive, maximum of 10.

Tented Bush SPA
• Located at Kwena Lodge with 2 treatment rooms.
• Utilises Africology products. Treatments range from facials, body wraps, waxing, massage, manicures and pedicures.
• Kiddies treatments on offer: facials, massage, manicure and pedicures.

Bass Fishing
• There are two dams that one can fish at in the 1200 hectare Protected Endangered Species Area. The entire area is fenced from dangerous game.
• Strict catch and release policy applies.
• Includes basic fishing gear and a soft beverage.
• Children 4 years and older are welcome. Maximum 4 persons.
• Guests can order a picnic as a lunch option whilst fishing.
• Guests will be charged when on Half Board basis. Picnic lunches to be pre-arranged prior.

Guided Fynbos Walks
• Walks are conducted in the 1200 hectare Protected Endangered Species Area. The entire area is fenced from dangerous game.
• Includes soft beverage.
• No children under the age of 12 years old permitted on guided walks with a maximum of 6 persons – excluding guide.
• Our Fynbos biome is unique and spectacular to walk through, guests will be introduced to the fascinating plants and their life cycles, as well as endemic birds and animals that reside in the fynbos areas on Gondwana.

Fynbos Conservation Experience
The Fynbos experience is conducted in different monitoring zones throughout the reserve lead by our resident botanist.
Guests will assist in identifying, recording, monitoring and geo-mapping Fynbos species on the reserve. Guests will collect scientific data and be introduced to live conservation and bio-diversity projects on the Reserve. Participants will gain a greater understanding of Fynbos and the diversity of life that exists within this critically endangered biome. The activity is two to three hours in duration with some walking required.

Mountain Bikes
• COMPLIMENTARY OFFERING.
• Located in the 1200 hectare Protected Endangered Species Area. The entire area is fenced from dangerous game.
• We offer 4 routes starting from the activity shed where the bikes are housed:
 o Red Route – Novice rider 7.44km’s
 o Blue Route – Novice rider 8.62km’s
 o Green Route – Advanced rider 10.4km’s
 o Orange Route – Advanced rider 12.4km’s
• Please make bike reservations in advance to ensure availability.
• Unguided rides on demarcated routes for a maximum of 6 adult riders and 2 children, (6 adult bikes and 2 children’s bikes).

The Junior Ranger Programme
• Is complimentary for all Full Board and Half Board guests with children.
• With a dedicated children’s guide, the program includes educational Game Drives and interactive conservation activities.
• The younger children’s activities will be based mainly around the lodge to stay closer to parents.
• On arrival, families will be informed about the Junior Ranger program and their ranger will enquire about any special requests, dietary, babysitting or otherwise.
• Children will receive a fun Ranger’s backpack and cool safari booklet to fill in throughout their stay. During game drives and other activities with their ranger, kids will be taught how to identify mammals, birds, Fynbos species, and even stars. They will gain a greater understanding of conservation and our precious eco systems.

Rates are quoted in South African Rand, inclusive of VAT 15%
• Rates exclude Gondwana Game Reserve’s Conservation Levy. The 2019 Conservation Levy is R300 per adult per stay and R150 per child under 12 per say in addition to the quoted rates. The 2020 Conservation Levy is R350 per adult per stay and R175 per child under 12 per stay in addition to the quoted rates. Please see page 5 for an explanation of the Reserve’s Conservation levy. Please note these fees are subject to change with notification and billed in advance and non-commissionable.
• Soft and alcoholic beverages are not included in the rates except on game drives. This excludes stays at Ulubisi house of which local beverages are included in the rate.
• Single supplement rates apply to Kwena Lodge Accommodation only. No single supplement is charged in the Villa accommodation if 2 or more adults are sharing. Single supplement rates apply at the Tented Eco Camp for adult and children single pax who request not to share a tent.
• Kwena Lodge suites can be split from King beds into twin beds in 7 of the 14 rooms.
• Families and groups are accommodated in the Villas for their comfort and convenience. No children under 12 are accommodated in Kwena Lodge.

CHILDREN’S POLICY

Pricing
• Children 0 - 5 years of age stay free of charge when sharing with two full paying adults.
• Children 6 – 11 years of age pay 50% of full adult rate regardless of whether they stay in their parent’s room or occupy another room in the Villa.
• Children 12 years and older pay the full adult rate.
• Babysitting in your villa is available at an hourly rate of R150, and needs to be pre-booked to avoid disappointment.

Game Drives
• Children under age of 6 not permitted on Game Drives, only on a private vehicle.
• Children under the age of 2 years old are not permitted on a Game Drive for their own safety.
• A private vehicle can be reserved at additional cost of R3000 per day, to facilitate children from 2 - 6 years of age on Game Drives, should the family require this. This option is only bookable 48 hours prior to arrival and is subject to availability.
• The Lodge Team will, upon check-in, endeavour to facilitate young family Game Drives at no additional charge for families with children aged 4 – 6 years of age.

Additional Family information
• Families are booked into Fynbos Villas and Bush Villas for their convenience (cots are available on request).
• Villa rates are per person.
• Various beds in the villas can be split into a twin configuration.
• Children’s menus are available for lunch and dinner. Please do advise the Reservations Team of any specific dietary requirements so that we may accommodate them.
• If parents wish to have dinner at the lodge without their young children, babysitting and in-room dining can be arranged in the Villas. Parents’ meals can also be delivered to the villa, though our chefs would prefer you to experience Gondwana’s cuisine first hand in the lodge dining areas.
• Villa picnic baskets are available as a lunch alternative for families, as well as fishing picnics subject to availability.
3 AND 5 NIGHT CONSERVATION EXPERIENCE
Gondwana Game Reserve has developed a one of a kind conservation tourism experience for individuals, families or groups who want to get more involved in Africa on their safari. Participants will be involved in wildlife and field management, learn important bush skills and interpretation, and simply enjoy a behind the scenes view of a Big Five private game reserve. The research and findings from the program are fed back to Gondwana’s conservation department to assist in decision making enhancing the reserve management plan. The itinerary will include plenty of game drives, bush walks, and downtime in an utterly inspiring landscape. This is your chance to get involved with the important conservation work of a Big Five game reserve and not only enjoy but contribute. Your base during the program will be in our eco-friendly, solar powered, stylish tented camp set in a protected Fynbos valley in the heart of the game reserve. The camp facilities include 5 large, comfortable twin or king share tents set on raised platforms each with a private bathroom and covered deck area. All meals are provided in the camp’s outdoor dining boma or in the main communal tent which includes kitchen, lounge, and dining areas, with a nearby pool and hammock relaxation area. The safari style cuisine is wholesome, homemade and hearty with braais and stews for dinner and wraps and salads for lunch. A private dedicated team of three (two expert field guides and chef) look after up to 10 guests for an incredibly intimate and exclusive experience.
